Shane Gillard Chairman
As the head of operations and emergency management at WorkSafe Victoria, Shane Gillard has played a key role in regulating health and safety laws in Victoria for over a decade.
Accruing more than 20 years in management and leadership positions across a range of sectors and specialty areas including engineering, manufacturing, training and recruitment, Shane has witnessed first hand the effects of bullying in the workplace and community as a whole.
“Bullying is a huge issue in today’s society, it starts in the school yard and transfers into the workplace, something that I see in my role far too often,” he says.
“One bullying event is too many, it is unacceptable anti-social behaviour that must be stopped. Only by working together will we put an end to bullying once and for all.”
As a result he is passionate about raising awareness of the far-reaching consequences of unsafe workplaces and practices—from the commercial and social impacts to personal devastation for individuals and their loved ones.
Ali Halkic Founding Director
Ali Halkic’s son Allem was a 17-year-old vivacious teenager with a promising future until he tragically fell victim to cyber-bullying. Since that day in 2009, Ali has worked tirelessly to ensure the path of his son is never replicated.
“If only I understood the impact of Social Media,” he says. “I thought my son Allem was safe in his bedroom and he couldn’t get hurt. I was wrong and I paid the ultimate price and lost him to cyber-bullying. Life will never be the same for me, his mother, friends and our families.”
His first act was lobbying the Victorian State Government, with success, to erect barriers along the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne. Since construction, these fences have helped prevent hundreds of suicides.
Ali is passionate for the cause and what the Foundation stands for and continuously lends his time to assist in the delivery of bullying prevention programs. He is an inspiration and is respected by the media, various stakeholders and anyone who crosses his path.
Adam Centorrino Founding Director
A proud Melbournian, Adam Centorrino came to realise early on that bullying is a global issue; its impacts felt in almost all professional and social environments. It’s this passion, and his ability to empathise with individuals, that brought him to the work of BULLY ZERO™ Foundation.
“If we are to create a safer nation for every generation then immediate action against bullying must be taken through proper and effective education platforms,” he says.
Through his own work, Adam prioritises the welfare of his workers by creating a safe working environment for them day-to-day. He is a strong believer a safe workplace is essential for success within all business endeavours.
Adam brings exceptional IT skills to the Foundation developed across 8 years of managing Centorrino Technologies.
Giovanni Travaglini Director
John has been a member of Victoria Police for 15 years and currently manages one of the largest police stations in Victoria. With 130 plus personnel, John promotes the culture of his station as being a safe inclusive and respectful workplace.
John has been a strong BULLY ZERO™ ambassador since its inception in 2013, attending numerous schools and workplaces promoting the Foundation’s vision. John is also very passionate about empowering bystanders, as he believes bystander intervention can almost certainly influence a better outcome for vulnerable victims and effectively stop any form of bullying.
John was also one of the first responders to the tragic circumstances that claimed Allem Halkic’s life under the Westgate Bridge in 2009. He has seen first-hand the far reaching impact bullying can have on not only victims of bullying but the devastating effects it has on family, friends, and loved ones.
Michael Jansen Founding Director
In his role of general manager at Apprenticeships Matter, Michael Jansen is responsible for thousands of apprentices and trainees nationally. Each day he is tasked with ensuring each trainee and apprentice receives the best education possible in an inclusive environment that is free from all forms of bullying.
“Employers have a responsibility to provide a workplace free from all forms of bullying, harassment and intimidation. The Foundation delivers effective workshops and seminars to educate workers and employers about the devastating impact bullying can have in the workplace,” he says.
Michael is an active member of the board, ensuring he educates workers, employers, apprentices, trainees and the community as a whole on acceptable workplace behaviours. He brings a wealth of experience along with him to the Foundation.
