WE WORK TIRELESSLY THROUGH OUR PROGRAMS TO PREVENT BULLYING ON A NATIONAL SCALE.
Meet The Board
We’re proud to have such a committed and passionate Board of Directors dedicated to ending bullying.
Shane Gillard Chair
As the head of operations and emergency management at WorkSafe Victoria, Shane Gillard has played a key role in regulating health and safety laws in Victoria for over a decade.
Accruing more than 20 years in management and leadership positions across a range of sectors and specialty areas including engineering, manufacturing, training and recruitment, Shane has witnessed first hand the effects of bullying in the workplace and community as a whole.
“Bullying is a huge issue in today’s society, it starts in the school yard and transfers into the workplace, something that I see in my role far too often,” he says.
“One bullying event is too many, it is unacceptable anti-social behaviour that must be stopped. Only by working together will we put an end to bullying once and for all.”
As a result he is passionate about raising awareness of the far-reaching consequences of unsafe workplaces and practices—from the commercial and social impacts to personal devastation for individuals and their loved ones.
Ali Halkic Vice Chair & Founding Director
Ali Halkic’s son Allem was a 17-year-old vivacious teenager with a promising future until he tragically fell victim to cyber-bullying. Since that day in 2009, Ali has worked tirelessly to ensure the path of his son is never replicated.
“If only I understood the impact of Social Media,” he says. “I thought my son Allem was safe in his bedroom and he couldn’t get hurt. I was wrong and I paid the ultimate price and lost him to cyber-bullying. Life will never be the same for me, his mother, friends and our families.”
His first act was lobbying the Victorian State Government, with success, to erect barriers along the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne. Since construction, these fences have helped prevent hundreds of suicides.
Ali is passionate for the cause and what the Foundation stands for and continuously lends his time to assist in the delivery of bullying prevention programs. He is an inspiration and is respected by the media, various stakeholders and anyone who crosses his path.

“If we are to create a safer nation for every generation then immediate action against bullying must be taken through proper and effective education platforms,” he says.
Through his own work, Adam prioritises the welfare of his workers by creating a safe working environment for them day-to-day. He is a strong believer a safe workplace is essential for success within all business endeavours.

John was also one of the first responders to the tragic circumstances that claimed Allem Halkic’s life under the Westgate Bridge in 2009. He has seen first-hand the far reaching impact bullying can have on not only victims of bullying but the devastating effects it has on family, friends, and loved ones.
